Amongst the chaos of flinging magazines and vagina shaped cookies at every wide-eyed student who happens to wander past our O-week stall, we’ve being doing the rounds and profiling the various clubs and societies of MQ.

First up, we introduce the MQU Labor Club and the Macquarie Uni Liberal Club. We all seemed to have a hard time making up our minds this election – could each party’s joke-game win you over? #PokemonNotPolicy

We are the Macquarie Uni branch of NSW Young Labor. Our role on campus is to promote the Labor values of social justice and equality of opportunity, while advocating for student rights.

What kind of events do you hold?

We host heaps of cracking events, including weekly drinks at Ubar, debates against other political clubs, ‘dangerous’ and ‘controversial’ debates within the club, shots, bowling, karaoke and laser tag (aka Labor tag) at Strike Bar, and attending Young Labor functions in the city and campaigning for Labor candidates.

If your society had a Pokémon mascot, what would it be?

Zubat – because we are here for everyone. No matter who they are or where they are from.

What is the best moment you have shared as a society so far?

Our snap rally against anti-choice hate speech last year in October. We rallied successfully on short notice to show our support of maintaining an accepting and tolerant uni.

Tell us your best joke?

Trickle down economics and the Liberal government.

The club exists to offer a friendly environment to conservatives and libertarians alike and to bring down the Left! But we still like hanging out with lefties.

What kind of events do you hold?

Debates between clubs, hanging out with drinks at bars and revelling in the perfection that is The Right.

If your society had a Pokémon mascot, what would it be?

Clefairy. Because we are full of special fairies.

What is the best moment you have shared as a society so far?

The debate between UWS and Macq Lib Clubs. It was well attended, engaging, dynamic and chance to debate the best Liberal approach.

Plus, we won.

Tell us your best joke?

Your mum.
