Macquarie University has seen many aspects of change already in 2015, from the new layout of iLearn to the university emblem. However, the reopening of a revamped Macquarie Ubar on February 18th sure turned some heads. Paris Manson, The Ubar Event and Promotions Coordinator, is excited with how the new look will resonate with Macquarie students.
“The primary objective of the refurbishment is to provide a vibrant space for staff and students to meet and enjoy their university experience on campus, via additional seating areas and increased shelter,” Manson said.
The new Ubar includes larger, open-seat booths, astro-turfed spaces, new furniture and lighting features, a new undercover function space with a number of flexible venue hire options, a zoned audio system with wireless microphone capability, and BBQ facilities.
Additionally, the Ubar will now offer a new menu, with an exciting gourmet pizza range, additional boutique beers on tap and increased wine selections. Manson says that the aim of the new Ubar is to “encourage a more socially inclusive culture amongst the campus community and offer something for everyone”.
Ubar has always been a very popular place on campus for students to come and relax after classes, go for lunch and be an exciting place for many events. This year will also see the introduction of a revamped events schedule. In Session One, Ubar will launch ‘Whats On’ – an engaging weekly social program including free pool, games day, bingo, trivia and lawn bowls for each day of the week, as well as other live sport screenings and activities.
The classic Thursday theme nights will continue throughout the semester, starting with the original Summer Haze and Toga parties. Ubar will also play host to a bunch of other exciting theme nights including Double Denim, Hawaiian Night and Black Light Parties!
To everyone out there who is new to university life, come and check out the new and improved Macquarie Ubar. The first major theme night is the Summer Haze Party on Thursday 26 February from 8pm! Get excited and we look forward to seeing you all there!
