WORDS Jessica Yap
Hornsby Ku-ring-gai’s Relay for Life is only a short couple of weeks away and we’re on the search for some awesome and interested volunteers to help us with the running of the day.
But wait, what is Relay for Life?
Relay For Life is a community event where teams work together and participate in running, walking, skipping or jogging around a track for 24 hours. Over the 24 hours, and prior to the event, teams raise funds for Cancer Council through community activities and donations from the public. The relay event will involve an evening of celebrations, entertainment, food and not to mention bringing survivors, carers and loved ones together to fight back from cancer.
Registrations are only $20 per person, which includes a relay shirt, insurance overnight and entertainment over the two days.
This year is Hornsby Ku-ring-gai’s 11th Relay for Life, running from 2nd to 3rd of November 2013 and with all that practice, you know this year will be bigger and better. The aim is to surplus our 2012 of $100,000 to $120,000 but it would only be done with the help of some Macquarie students. The goal may seem overwhelming at first, but it’s possible. Many teams will raise money by selling cupcakes and glow sticks, hosting a sausage sizzle event, or spray painting hair.
Currently, there are almost 30 teams registered for the event and over 150 participants on board preparing for the weekend ahead. Go and share the event, invite your friends, and don’t be one of these guys:
