Jurassic Lounge is headed for extinction!

REPORT Avery Phillips

After five seasons of wild after-hour parties in the Australian Museum, Jurassic Lounge is set to go extinct as it begins its sixth and final season on 3 September.

Since its first season in February 2011, Jurassic Lounge has become an iconic part of Sydney’s nightlife. Combining the history and culture of a museum visit with the drinks, music and performances of a night out on the town. On Tuesday nights from 6-10pm Jurassic Lounge offers a unique experience, which has attracted over 53,000 attendants in the past three years.

In the final season (aptly titled ‘Jurassic Lounge: Extinction’) visitors will enjoy a line-up of comedians, bands and burlesque performances during ten interactive themed parties, starting up with the ‘Time Machine’ party (every room is a different decade!). Over the next nine weeks the party theme will progress through ‘Film/Photography’, ‘5 Senses’, ‘Cowboy’, ‘Cycling/Up-Cycling’, ‘Dinosaurs’, ‘Dads Night’, ‘Tutti-Frutti’ and ‘Halloween’, eventually culminating in ‘Extinction Night’! The grand finale celebration on 5 November.

Each party will feature music from up-and-coming bands including Richard in Your, Mind, Pear Shape, Bloody Lovely Audrey and The Mountains, as well as various craft workshops, date roulette, vintage games and the brand new Jurassic Market. For the first five weeks visitors will also be given complimentary access to the Wildlife Photographer of the year Exhibition, featuring over 100 photos selecting from 48,000 entries worldwide.

Tickets to Jurassic Lounge can be purchased at the door or online at www.jurassiclounge.com. It is recommended that you purchase tickets early to avoid disappointment.
