Book Review: Floundering

REVIEW Stephanie Lewis

This is the first novel by Melbournian Romy Ash, of food blog Trotksi and Ash and Frankie and Yen fame. It follows brothers Tom and Jordy as they are reunited with their mum Loretta, and hit the road in her beat up car Bert. It has a real Australian feel, like a Tim Winton novel, minus the dreamy landscapes. It’s more caravan parks and cordial, the suffocating heat of driving in summer and the way school uniforms feel out of place once you leave the school grounds. It will make you smile, then seconds later twist your stomach into knots. A well-written book, it tells a believable, heart-wrenching tale.
